Description
We have discontinued our plywood-based shelters -- see the Feralvilla Outdoor Cat Shelter II

The original ready-to-assemble version of the world's best-selling outdoor cat shelter! It comes painted, with a fully shingled roof and insulated living area on the 2nd floor of this unique, patent-pending home. The FeralVilla assembles in about 15-30 minutes. A cordless screwdriver/drill is highly recommended, but it can be assembled with nothing more than a philips screwdriver. Illustrated step-by-step assembly instructions are included.

Color: Shelters are painted a neutral/dark color to blend in a wooded environment (the light colored shelter pictured is for improved visibility in photographs). We don't offer color choices.

Size: Overall size is 22" wide by 22" deep and about 22" tall at the peak of the roof. The upper, insulated "bedroom" is about 20" wide by 20" deep and the height varies from 10" to 12".

Availability: Usually ships in 5-7 business days (with cleared payment)

Rating PURRRFECT FERAL CAT SHELTER

This is the 3rd feralvilla shelter that I have purchased. They are easy to assemble and reasonably priced and best of all the cats use them. For added comfort especially for the Chicago winters, I purchased the K&H extreme weather kitty pad. It fits perfectly in the shelter and amazon always seems to have the cheapest price. I would highly recommend both of these products for anyone who is caring for outdoor cats and to help them survive the cold winters. I would also strongly suggest ordering them before the cold winter months as they usually are backlogged for weeks depending on the time of purchase.

Rating Kitties Moved Right In!

We have two outside cats that are "trap, neuter, release" strays that we have been caring for. We ordered one Feralvilla to try it out and one of the cats moved right in and loves it. We enticed him with a small can of catfood and some catnip and he immediately checked it out! So we ordered a second one for the other stray. Now our neighbor's cat has adopted us so we are ordering a third one. It is an ingenius product and is SO easy to assemble. It is well-made and unobtrusive. Kudos to FeralVilla for making such a nice home for our little friends. I've recommended the product to others (as it was recommended to me by a neighbor who has a small feral cat colony at his house).

Rating Cat Shelter

This is the perfect shelter for feral cats! Affordable, easy to put together, looks nice, and seems very comfortable for outdoor feral cats. It took our feral a little while to realize there was a second floor but now he LOVES it! It makes me happy to know that he has a safe and warm home to go to.

I ordered the villa and had it shipped and assembled in less that 1 week! Great product and price for the quality. My only suggestion would be to tag the pieces as assembly was a little confusing. Thanks Feralvilla!!

Questions and Answers View all Q&A
Q: How big is the Feralvilla Outdoor Cat Shelter?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: The overall outside size is 22 x 22" and 22" high at the peak of the roof. The roof overhangs by a couple of inches on all sides to increase weather resistance.

Q: How many cats will the Feralvilla Outdoor Cat Shelter house?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: This varies by cats, which are all individuals. It will comfortably house one or even two adult cats, but it's not unusual for 2-3 younger (and smaller) cats to go into a shelter. Cats are not herd or pack animals, so as a rule, cats do not share their sleeping quarters. Although they may share a shelter, you shouldn't count on it, unless you know the cats are already sharing sleeping quarters.

Q: How do I best prepare the Feralvilla Outdoor Cat Shelter for winter?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A:  The FeralVilla is insulated with a type of insulation that uses the cat's own body heat to keep warm in cold weather. As shipped, The FeralVilla will work well in protecting a cat from all but the most severe, long cold weather. Adding a handful or two of straw will improve the cold weather performance by helping wick off some moisture from the cat's fur.

Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: Cats over 18 lbs. have used the FeralVilla Outdoor Cat Shelter without a problem. The openings are 6" wide and approximately 7" long.

Q: Can I order Feralvilla products in specific colors?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: No. As the shelters are produced in an "assembly line" manner, and painted at various stages of production, there is no way to really designate a particular color for a particular shelter. If you want to re-paint the outside of The FeralVilla shelter, it will take about a quart of paint.

Q: Will my cat(s) use the Feralvilla Outdoor Cat Shelter during the summer?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: Maybe. There are 2 levels in The FeralVilla and the shelter is insulated in the upper area. In warm climates, the cats aren't likely to spend so much time in the upper level, but may take advantage of shade and cool ground on the lower level.

Q: How often should I replace the straw bedding I've put in the Feralvilla Outdoor Cat Shelter?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: This depends on how many cats use it and how much they use it. As a rule of thumb, straw should be changed out at least every 3 months. If the straw is very packed down, wet or shows any signs of mold/mildew, it should be replaced.

Q: Can I use other kinds of bedding besides straw like fleece or fabric?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: Possibly, but if any fabric is used, it must be checked frequently and laundered in hot water with bleach to control mold and mildew which can grow quickly on many fabrics. Remember that a truly feral (unsocialized) cat will not be very keen on the idea of having his/her nest disturbed often, so balance your desire to use fabrics with caring for the cat in a way that won't drive him/her out of the shelter by excessive intrusion.

Q: How can I clean the inside of the Feralvilla Outdoor Cat Shelter?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A: The roof of the FeralVilla shelter lifts off for easy cleaning. Only clean The FeralVilla with water in warmer months, or when you can bring it inside a warm area to dry. For normal cleaning, just spraying with a hose and leaving off the top to air dry will be fine. If there area stains or persistent odors, use a solution of dishwashing detergent and water, then thoroughly rinse. DO NOT scrub the insulation, as you may damage the foil coating -- use a soft scrub brush or wash cloth.

Q: Can I come to your store and pickup my order today?
Asked by: Greg - 7/1/2007
A:  No. We do not have a retail store. We do allow people to pickup from our shop (near Greenfield, IN) to save the cost of shipping, but we do not have the storage space to "inventory" products -- they are manufactured to meet the demand. The time that it takes from order to delivery/pickup may vary, and is listed on the individual product's detail page.
